I have done this technique with matte medium before and had MUCH better results. I have a feeling that the transfer didn't work as well because my prints weren't fresh. I also like the results better when I use good quality matte photo paper instead of lightweight paper. It does look like it's a old photo that has had water damage and I kind of like the way it turned out.
